SOCITIM's research on the Implementation of the EU Services Directive in the UK

Recent news sent out in a SOCITM email stated that according to Better Connected For Business, Implementation of the EU Services Directive in the UK, of the 540 competent authorities surveyed, including 433 local authorities and 107 professional institutions and government agencies, only 26 websites (5%) were rated as very good, with another 99 (18%) considered satisfactory. 320 websites (59%) were rated as poor and with the remaining 94 websites (19%) reviewers could find no relevant information.

The EU Services Directive was intended to reduce the amount of government red tape for all new and existing businesses in a number of areas including the delivery of online applications for a wide range of licences including scaffolding, licenced venues, skips and petroleum storage.  The assessments looked at the ease of use for the forms as well as the details provided on websites etc.

A number of authorities have made use of Zipporah solutions and have delivered their services through our ecommerce product, allowing them to build their own forms for any range of licences and services.  These include London Borough of Croydon who came out of the review in a very positive light.  In addition to delivering on this area of service, many of our clients now use our system for everything from paying invoices online to buying school transport spaces.  With such a wide range of uses and with so many authorities performing poorly it may be a good time for you to look at ZIPI if you haven’t already.
